Tracy Cromwell

Johns Hopkins University

Tracy Cromwell is a hardworking and successful young woman with a familiar story. A native Baltimorean, Tracy attended one of the area's lowest performing neighborhood-zoned high schools. She learned early in life that success comes from preparation and discipline and in order to obtain success, one must have a good education. With this in mind, Tracy made achieving superior grades in high school and attaining an exceptional SAT score her main priorities.

Like many of her inner-city African American counterparts, Tracy possessed the tools necessary to enter college, but did not have the financial support that she needed to pay for higher education. She was very interested in business and information technology, and knew she wanted her college major to directly relate to and reflect those interests. With the support and direction of her high school guidance counselor, Tracy began to submit college applications to the schools with first-rate business programs – and applied for scholarships. She applied for many scholarships, but one in particular captured her attention and suited her interests. This was the Adams Future Business Leadership Scholarship, a program for African American students who are interested in majoring in business.

Tracy graduated from Southern High School in June 2001. With the financial support of the Associated Black Charities, she entered Morgan State University where she majored in information science and systems. While attending Morgan State, she maintained a 3.3 grade point average, and held an IT internship at Johns Hopkins University. She received her bachelor of science degree in May 2006, and is currently employed as an organizational management representative at Johns Hopkins University. She is also scheduled to complete the requirements for her masters of business and masters of science in technology management degrees in the summer of 2008.
